SAP BPC Resources
Your guide to SAP BPC resources from Opal Wave
SAP provides a set of essential resource documents on BPC, but due to the sheer volume of materials (and how they are organised) it can sometimes be difficult, time consuming, and frustrating to find exactly what you are looking for.
To help, we’ve put together a section in our website what materials are available, at least the most commonly used ones, and where they can be found. There is also a separate list of nearly 100 SAP sites containing BPC and EPM materials.
There is also a bookmark file containing the links discussed in this article that can be imported into Internet Explorer. Please note that the attached bookmark file has been tested on IE 11 only, but is likely to work on other versions. It is used at your own risk.
The main SAP portals that provide information on BPC are:
- The Help portal
- The Support portal
- SAP Community
- Blogs
- Idea Place
Please note that a valid SAP ID is required to access many parts of these portals; this can be provided by your organisation’s SAP Administrator.
The Help Portal
The Help Portal is accessed here and contains the bulk of the formal product reference information that is published by SAP, including:
- Product help pages
- Product documentation i.e. manuals
- Documentation for the IFRS and USGAAP starter kits
A list of links to the BPC and other EPM content is in the attached workbook.
The Support Portal
The Support Portal is accessed here and contains many items including:
- SAP Notes and Knowledge Base search
- Product Availability Matrix (PAM)
- Software Download Centre (SWDC)
If you’ve not come across them before, SAP Notes are short documents issued by SAP that address a specific issue, and PAM shows release planning information for SAP products.
SAP Community
The SAP Community portal is accessed here and contains a variety of “information needed for troubleshooting and learning about [BPC]” including:
- Product news
- Technical information
- Featured SAP Notes
- “How-to” guides for all EPM products
- The “EPM add-in academy”
BPC Blogs
SAP blogs are accessed here. BPC blogs can be found using the search function or by using SAP product tags as shown in the attached list of hyperlinks. In addition, a full list of SAP product tags can be found here.
The articles on the blog pages can be filtered by “blog” or “question”, and the separate answers pages are here.
The Blog pages are an essential source of product news (for example).
Idea Place
The Idea Place is accessed here and enables users to submit enhancement requests to SAP for functionality to be incorporated into existing products.
SAP BPC Product Documentation
For reference purposes the main help pages (for example) contain links to a great deal of product documentation.
SAP BPC Wiki Pages
Provide an indispensable portal to BPC and EPM information that is not covered by the reference manuals (for example). This content includes product news and technical information.
SAP EPM Use Guide
The EPM plug-in/add-in user guide is regularly updated and is an essential source of reference for anyone developing EPM templates. It can be accessed via the AO help page here.
The Blog pages are an essential source of product news (for example).
